About 8 years ago, we were forced to switch insurance companies for home and auto from Royal & Sun Alliance because they were no longer providing services in our area.  Travelers stepped in.  Somehow through all this, we also ended up with two completely different insurance agents.

Now, I understand the way insurance works.  The cost of fixing any one covered car is spread out over many people’s premiums.  My own twice-yearly payments help pay for someone else’s fender bender, or their medical expenses from accidents.  I am willing to do this even without the law demanding my automobiles be covered because it makes some sense.

Where I get annoyed, however, is when you spend 8 years paying the insurance company to do nothing for you, and then when you happen to need them twice for some minor things, they decide not to keep you as their client.  When the agent first told me, my thought was just about some extra work that needed to be done to straighten it out.  But the more I thought about it, the more I decided this is just shitty behavior on the insurance company’s part.  Twice in 8 years, and it was only our car that needed fixing, and we’re cut off.

“We’re a multi-million, if not billion, dollar company, but you cost us a couple thousand of it spread out over two plus years, so get stuffed.”  And the people who run these companies wonder why we are extremely aggravated at them?
